Kahn's Arena is also known as Shao Kahn's Arena. In Outworld, Shao Kahnhas his own arena where the Konqueror will sometimes battle opponents himself. There are literally hundreds of spectators that come to see their emperor crush opponents in battle. When not battling, Shao Kahn observes the fight from his throne.
Sonya Blade and Kano were captured and held here inMortal Kombat II as prisoners forced to observe the vicious battles that took place to the delight of the blood thirsty crowd and Shao Kahn himself when not competing. Kahn's Arena also reappeared in Mortal Kombat Trilogy, however due to Sonya and Kano being playable they were removed from chains in the background.
While this arena originally premiered in Mortal Kombat II, it has been overhauled for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The new arena now has four Death Traps of various flavors: twin crushing gears, a pool of acid, a pool of lava and a pike-laiden pit.
In Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, Kahn's Arena serves as the arena for the final battles of the game against Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn. The arena is depicted slightly differently; the arena is no longer a walkway, but an elevated circular platform.
In Mortal Kombat (2011) Kahn's arena was renamed to "Kahn's Coliseum" which is also sometimes called "Shao Kahn's Coliseum". Five characters were chained in the background of E3 demo - Kira, Li Mei, Tanya,Kitana and an unknown female red ninja. The emperor is now fully animated, mocking the fighters during the fight. In addition, this version is shown to have a dirt floor instead of a concrete linear pathway used for fighting, a much larger viewing audience for the width of the arena's spectacular and violent battles, a giant monster fending off tamers in the background, and is assumed to serve as the final stage of the retelling of Mortal Kombat II in this latest entry of the series.
