Test Your Sight

Test Your Sight is a mini-game that debuted and only appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. It appeared as a spin-off of Test Your Might, which was originally introduced in the original Mortal Kombat and also made its return in Deadly Alliance. Neither Test Your Sight nor Test Your Might appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deceptionor Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
]The mini-game involves the character standing above a set of cups. The game will show the player which cup has the MK icon in, and the cups will begin to move in a random order, and by the end the player has to select the cup which the icon was in. As the player progresses through the mini-game, the number of cups will increase, as will the speed in which the cups would move. At higher levels, the camera would even move in order to make it more difficult for the player to keep track of the movement of the MK icon. Like Test Your Might, the player is rewarded with Koins if the selected cup is correct.
Test Your Sight returns in Mortal Kombat 2011, except the cups have been replaced with severed heads, one containing an eye. In a dark, yet humorous twist, the player, upon failure, is rewarded with Nightwolf's tomahawk thrown into their head, killing the character.
In Deadly Alliance it is stated that the cups contain poison, except the cup with the MK icon, which is filled with water. After choosing a cup, the player has to drink its content.
It is interesting to note that Kenshi is the only character who uses his ears instead of his eyes during gameplay, due to the fact that he is blind.

Test Your Might

Test Your Might is a mini-game that first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat as an interlude between battles, similar to breaking. The minigame consists of the player's character standing above one of five blocks of increasing hardness, depending on how far the player have progressed in Test Your Might. The player would have to hammer multiple buttons until the gauge next to their character passed a certain point, and then would have to press the Block button to strike. If they were above this point, their character would break the block in front of them. Otherwise, their hand would bounce off the object sitting in front of them. The player starts off on wood, and after breaking it would move up to stone, steel, ruby, and diamond, then back to wood after diamond is broken. The breaking point on the gauge is raised with the increasing hardness of each block.

The minigame appears at different intervals depending on whether the game is played in one-player or two-player mode. In one-player mode, it appears after every three battle victories, no matter how many battles take place.
However, since the one-player mode ends after the twelfth battle victory (against Shang Tsung), this mode gives players only three chances to test their might before their game is over. This means that the two hardest blocks of the five (ruby and diamond) are reachable only after a player wins at least two Test Your Might minigames in two-player mode.
The mini-game also appears after every five consecutive two-player battles, with each player's progress maintained individually.
Breaking each block rewards points as follows:
  • Wood: 100,000 points, equivalent to a Fatality bonus
  • Stone: 200,000 points, equivalent to a Flawless Victory bonus
  • Steel: 500,000 points, equivalent to a Double Flawless bonus
  • Ruby: 1,000,000 points
  • Diamond: 2,000,000 points
The mini-game was never featured in any sequel until Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, where it returned with improved graphics, a similar but longer block sequence (bamboo, coal, oak, brick, redwood, marble, iron, then diamond). Whereas in Mortal Kombat Test Your Might was there to earn points, it is in Deadly Alliance to earn Koins with which to unlock special features in the Krypt. The character will also react to the player's success or failure.
The Test Your Might mini-game never returned in Mortal Kombat: Deception orMortal Kombat: Armageddon. However, in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, the minigame appears whenever the player needs to perform some feat of strength, and at times, even during specific parts of boss battles.
Test Your Might is a gameplay feature in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The player drives the opponent through a certain amount of walls.

Puzzle Kombat

Puzzle Kombat was a special mini-game introduced in Mortal Kombat Deception and returned for Ultimate Mortal Kombat. It is based on the famous Russian video game series, Tetris.

Gameplay
Puzzle Kombat mixes fighting with Tetris-style gameplay. Two-block colored combination pieces are randomly generated but both players receive the same pieces. They come in red, blue, yellow and green. Players can arrange their horizontal and vertical positions before they touch the bottom or another piece where they will stay until broken. In order to break pieces, a Breaker must come in contact with its corresponding colored block, removing the block from the board. Sometimes, the Breaker come in pairs which results in automatic destruction upon contact. As moves are made, the characters (transformed into 'chibi-like' versions) fight one another. Another block-breaking piece is the Bomb, represented by a solid black sphere. It destroys all blocks of the color it comes in contact and pops up both kombatants, though the user receives no bonus. Through strategic placing, it is possible to chain up block breaking and create kombat, which in turn prompts the kombatant to perform their own kombos. Blocks broken are transferred to the opposing player which fall from the top and pile up. Over time by breaking blocks, a Super gauge fills up. By pressing 1, players can unleash their special to buffer their own odds or attack the other player.

Characters
Puzzle Kombat uses a different, smaller roster than the main game. The character models are altered and compressed to resembled 'chibified' characters in a Japanese game, similar to Puzzle Fighter and Puzzle Bubble. Each character has their own special Super.

Roster

Scorpion - Jumble - Scorpion launches his Spear at the opponent, reels them in and uppercuts them in classical fashion as the target's blocks are randomly scrambled

Sub-Zero - Freeze - Sub-Zero launches his Ice Blast as the target's blocks are frozen where they cannot be broken by any means until they thaw out completely over time
Ermac - Levitate - Lifts and eliminates a large portion of the user's blocks

Baraka - Edger - Summons Baraka's blades down to pierce all blocks on each far side of the user's screen.

Chess Kombat

Chess Kombat was a special gameplay mode making its debut, and so far, only appearance in Mortal Kombat Deception

Overview
Chess Kombat is based on real life chess games where the player's pieces have to fight their way through the opposition's stronghold to their side and defeat their king. Keeping in with the theme of Mortal Kombat, the pieces are renamed and given special functions. The pieces are represented by characters selected by the players assigned to specific classes.

Gameplay
As with chess, players take turns advancing their pieces forward. Depending on the class of the piece, the number of squares in which they can advance varies as well as which direction they can move in. Whenever a piece comes in contact with another, a battle takes place in which the game switches to a normal one-round fight. The piece who declares battle against the other piece receives a health bonus. The winner occupies the square of the enemy. Any damage taken is carried over in fights. In order to claim victory, the player must defeat the enemyLeader in kombat. You can also win the game if you use the Sorcerer's Imprison spell on the leader if he/she is the only piece left. A tally will be shown at the end of the game for both players

Class pieces
There are five different classes of pieces, each based on a class in real life chess. In accordance with the Mortal Kombat theme, the classes have special abilities.

Leader (King) - The goal of the game is to protect the leader whilst attempting to defeat the enemy leader. Once the leader is gone, the game ends. A Fatality is automatically performed upon seizing victory of the match. The leader starts out with a nearly full health bar. The Leader can move in any direction but can only advance one square. The leader starts out at the center of the far side of their base holding a light overheard. Concept art depicts the leader piece sitting on a throne with a malnourished servant carrying him, which explains the Leader's limited movement.

Champion (Queen) - The champion serves as the personal bodyguard of the Leader, standing beside them as the last line of defense. The Champion can move in any direction and number of squares they wish, allowing them to easily close gaps. Players start out with two Champions and they stand beside the Leader. They start out with a full health bar.

Sorcerer (Bishop) - The Sorcerer is a very dangerous piece on the board. While not geared towards direct kombat, they possess the ability to cast spells that can affect the flow of the game. The Sorcerer's movement is restricted to diagonal advances only. Each player starts out with two. Unlike the other pieces, both Sorcerers are unique. The one on the left casts offensives spells that range from space swapping to instantly killing any piece short of a Champion. The right casts buffering spells that range from healing to reviving a fallen piece. Each spell can only be cast once, so the player must conserve their spells until truly needed. They start out with a 30% health gauge
Heal - Restores any piece's health fully
Teleport - Teleports any Grunt, Shifter or Champion to any unoccupied square on the board
Resurrect - Revives any Grunt, Shifter or Champion that has fallen.
Protect - Safeguards any chosen piece from battle declarations
Kill - Automatically removes any Grunt or Shifter from the game.
Exchange - Swaps any Grunt, Shifter or Champion's current position with the enemy's.
Sacrifice - Removes one's own piece to restore the health of another piece.
Imprison - Prevents any chosen piece from moving and prevents kombat declarations.
Shifter (Rook) - A formidable class. The Shifter has the ability to mimic the form of whomever they commence kombat with. They also mimic the current stats of their opposition. Shifters will not activate their special ability if they're fighting another Shifter or if their opponent is the same as their initial form. Should they do kombat with another Shifter, both kombatants will start out with a full health bar. Shifters can advance four spaces forward, backwards and sideways and can move any number of squares diagonally. They start out with half a health bar. There are only three of them.
Grunt (Pawn) - The Grunt is the bulk of the player's army. Though weak in stature, they're numerous and indispensable. They can move two squares backward, forward and sideways and one square diagonally. Each player starts with eight pieces and each has 40% health.

Special Squares
Another aspect that both players must take caution of is the spaces. In each game, there are two types of spaces: Power Cells and Traps. Power Cells are visible, represented by decorative glowing green squares and placed on either horizontal side of the board. Any piece occupying this square receives a full health gauge. A 25% health bonus is granted to all pieces of the player for as long as their piece occupies the Power Cell. The Traps are set by the players before the match starts and can be set anywhere except for the enemy's side and Power Cells. The Trap is invisible and can be switched in position before the game starts to confuse the enemy and aFake Trap can be set to keep things on edge. Any unwary piece who sets foot on their enemy's Trap Space will be propelled offscreen by an explosion. The next turn or in the victim's turn, the piece will fall back down and smash head-first to the ground in a spectacle of gore, eliminating the piece from the game automatically.
