About Kratos

Eventually revealed to be a demigod, Kratos embarks on a series of often forced adventures in attempts to avert disaster or change his fate. Kratos is usually portrayed as being oblivious to all else in the execution of these adventures, often engaging in morally ambiguous activities and performing acts of extreme violence. Each adventure forms part of a saga with vengeance as a central theme, and provides additional information on Kratos' origins and relationship with his family and the gods. Kratos has received positive critical reception, being described by reviewers as a "sympathetic antihero." The character is also associated with products including artwork, clothing, comic books, fast food, the internet, a novel, sweepstakes, toys, and cell phone skins, with Game Guru claiming that "Practically anyone, even if they hadn't played any of the God of War games, would know about Kratos. Also in Game Informer's "50 characters that defined a decade" issue, Kratos was featured as number 7 on that list, giving props for the games and the deep, well done storyline.
Kratos was officially confirmed to appear in the new Mortal Kombatvideo game at Spike TV's annual Video Game Awards with a new trailer. On March 23, Gamespot posted a new video showcasing Kratos' gameplay and stage.

Personality

Kratos is a very destructive, amoral, self-centered anti-hero with guilt that is often moved to extreme rage. His goal is to achieve vengeance on Ares for making him kill his wife and child. This vengeance later extends to Zeus for trying to kill him in Rhodes. Kratos then decides to get revenge on all the gods of Olympus. Unable to cope with the memory of his own misdeeds, Kratos has considered suicide on two separate occasions.
On some occasions, Kratos even tended to put the blame of his actions onto others (Ares, The Gods, ...), until the very end, during which he finally realized the consequences of his actions, thus stabbing himself with the Blade of Olympus.

Fighting Style

Kratos' main weapons were once the Blades of Chaos, a gift from Ares as a sign of Kratos' servitude. They are essentially two Falchion-like blades on long chains, permanently fused and seared to the wielder's forearms. Once Kratos killed Ares, Athena replaced them with a nearly identical pair of blades called the Blades of Athena, and then replaces them again in God of War III with the very similar Blades of Exile. Kratos displays proficiency with all of his weapons. It's implied that he learned many of his fighting skills from Ares, the former God of War himself.
Also, in the games, he's seen using different weapons, ranging from the Blade of Olympus to the Nemean Cestus. He uses the Head of Helios to stun his opponent with a blinding flash.

Signature Moves

In the Kratos fighting video, he is shown to have two styles. He can use his fists, and he can use the Blades of Exile. He also has other weapons from the third game as well, such as the Nemean Cestus, the Bow of Apollo, the Head of Helios and Blade of Olympus. In his X-ray, he is seen stabbing the kombatant with both Blades of Exile, breaking his/her's ribcage, and then punching them in the face with his Nemean Cestus. In his Fatality he is seen to throw the enemy in the air and also stab them with both Blades of Exile (although the Fatality was shown incomplete). He is seen to be holding the Blade of Olympus at the end of the fatality.
  • Bow of Apollo: Kratos shoots two to four flaming arrows at his opponent. (MK 2011)
  • Rhodes Soldier Finisher: Kratos stabs his enemy with the Blades of Exile thrice, then throws him/her down (much like how he finishes off the Rhodes Soldiers in God of War 2). (MK 2011)
  • Athena's Revenge: After parrying an attack, Kratos slams his Blades of Exile on the ground, creating a shockwave that sends his opponent into the air. (MK 2011)
  • Head of Helios: Kratos pulls out Helios' Head, which emits a small shockwave of light that blinds the opponent. (MK 2011)
  • Divine Stab: A quicktime event style move where Kratos slashes the opponent, punches them when they're on their knees, then finally stabs them with the Blade of Olympus as he/she lies on the ground. (MK 2011)
  • Hermes Rush: Using the Boots of Hermes, Kratos dashes through his opponent, damaging him/her and leaving a trail of fire. (MK 2011)
  • X-Ray Move: Nemean Cestus: Kratos anchors himself to his opponent with his Blades of Exile, then slides toward them. He then stabs his opponent with both Blades as he reaches him/her, slicing the ribcage. Then, he punches the opponent in the face with the Nemean Cestus, shattering his/her skull. (MK 2011)

Dark Kahn

Dark Kahn render.jpg

About Dark Kahn

Dark Kahn is a monstrous being of pure Rage created from the accidental merging of Darkseid and Shao Kahn. For the entirety of the storyline, Dark Kahn hides within the merging of Apokalips and Outworld, influencing the DC superheroes, villains and kombatants to fight amongst one another to further fuel the chaos. Dark Kahn does not appear until the final chapter of both sides where he has lured all participants to fight amongst one another until Shang Tsung, Raiden, Superman and Batman are left standing from the midst. The god of thunder and the Man of Steel chase to his tower, which has become a merger of Shao Kahn's Palace and Darkseid's Palace where he tricks them into fighting each other. Eventually, the two are able to break free from his influence and channel his own rage against him, causing his destruction, and Shao Kahn and Darkseid to exist separately (although in each others universe, with a temporary loss of powers). The kombatants deal with Darkseid and send him to the Netherrealm while Shao Kahn becomes trapped in a fragmented Phantom Zone.

Power and abilities

Being a fusion of two powerful beings from two separate universes, Dark Kahn is already exceedingly powerful, enough that his own existence threatens the galaxy. Though he possesses both Shao Kahn's brute strength, sorcery and Darkseid's Omega Force, his primary ability is his Rage, which Captain Marvel refers to as 'kombat rage'. He is able to infect anyone with this spiritual influence which causes them to fight with an unquenchable bloodlust against both friend and foe. Though they appear to have a degree of conscious control over themselves, they will always perceive their friends to be their deadliest enemies. A telltale sign is the change in their voice and their glowing yellow eyes. Though the influence is powerful it can still be conquered with enough willpower.

Moves

Omega Beam: Dark Kahn unleashes his signature "Omega Beams" at his opponent.
Anti-Air Omega Beam: Dark Kahn blast an aerial opponent with his Omega Beams.
Omega Tremor: Dark Kahn slams his fist into the ground creating a shockwave. The move strikes an opponent twice, once with his fists and second with the shockwave.
Omega Knee: Dark Kahn leaps at his opponent, bashing his knee in their face.
Omega Force: Dark Kahn leaps high into the air and then comes down like a meteor, creating a shockwave and possibly landing on his opponent. If timed right, and the two correct attack buttons are pressed, Dark Kahn will headbutt the opponent if he lands on them.
Charging Spikes: Dark Kahn would shoulder ram his opponent with a streak following behind him, much like Johnny Cage's Shadow moves.
Wrath Hammer Attack: Dark Kahn would summon his Wrath Hammer, seemingly from thin air, and smash his opponent over the head with it.
Explosive Blast: Dark Kahn would fire off a meteor like fireball, seemingly from his hands.
Emperor's Shield: Dark Kahn would perform an uppercut like motion that would not only throw up a force field for a split second to deflect projectiles, but could also knock an opponent off his/her feet if physically too close.
Grab and Punch: Dark Kahn would lift his opponent up by the throat with one hand and then smash his fiery fist into their face sending them sailing back.

About Darkseid

A ruthless despot, Darkseid rules over the perpetually burning planet known as Apokolips. Obsessed with discovering the "Anti-Life Equation", he plans to use it to complete his quest for absolute power, and rule over all life in the universe. Nearly invulnerable, his powers include the ability to project Omega Beams from his eyes-dark rays with the power to alter, transport, and incinerate everything they come into contact with.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

Darkseid is one of the two key villains, alongside Shao Kahn. During the climax of Darkseid's attempted invasion of Earth, Superman sends him spiraling into the pavement with a mighty blow to the skull. After descending, Lex Luthor appears to comment on Superman's performance. Superman doesn't seem pleased, and threatens to drag Luthor to prison for apparently aiding Darkseid to begin with. While he is distracted, Darkseid prepares to flee via a Boom Tube. Superman reacts quickly by using his heat vision to destroy the gateway, but only manages to disrupt it. Darkseid is abruptly sucked into it, and merges with Shao Kahn (who was being subjected to a similar treatment by Raiden), becoming the all-powerful Dark Kahn.
Dark Kahn began fusing the two universes (Mortal Kombat's universe and DC Universe) into one, feeding from the combat between the two sides. His ultimate goal was to obliterate both worlds to end his suffering. However, Raiden and Superman came together in the final moments (by overcoming the combat rage) and defeated Dark Kahn, purging both universes of his wicked taint.
Afterwards, once the merger had ceased, Raiden and his warriors discover Darkseid has remained on their side. Raiden takes Darkseid to the Elder Gods, where they pass judgment on the lord of Apokolips by imprisoning him in the Netherrealm. But, according to his ending, Darkseid frees himself when Shang Tsung's scheme to snatch Darkseid's soul goes awry. Instead, Darkseid absorbs Tsung's power into himself, becoming strong enough to break the chains that bind him. Pleading for this life, Shang Tsung pledges his alliance to Darkseid.

About The Joker

Because of his chronic and deeply seeded insanity, there is no definitive story of how the man who would become The Joker came to be. There are, however, a few prevailing versions of what could be his origin story.
The most well-known of these is about a man with a pregnant wife, down on his luck and trying to make money as a stand-up comic. Not able to make ends meet, he is recruited by a group of career criminals to assist in a heist at a chemical plant using the traded off guise of the Red Hood. Right before the job was to be carried out, the man learns that his wife and unborn child were killed in a fire at their apartment. Feeling hopeless, the man agrees to the job and breaks into the chemical plant with the criminals as the Red Hood. Coming under fire, one of the criminals is killed by gunfire from a police officer, and one escapes, leaving the man in the Hood alone.
It's then that Gotham's nocturnal avenger, the Batman descends on him on a catwalk. Cowering from him, the man loses his footing and falls into a large vat of chemicals before Batman can save him. Washing ashore, the man feels burning in his face and eyes. Discarding the Hood, the man looks at his reflection in a puddle of rain and sees his skin bleached white, his hair turned emerald green, and his mouth stretched into a rigor mortis smile. The man begins crying, then giggling, and suddenly bursts into laughter, driven irredeemably insane by one bad day and a horrible disfigurement. From then on, the Joker's brilliantly sadistic and reprehensible actions have plagued Gotham City and Batman in the years since.

MK vs. DC

The Joker escaped from Arkham Asylum and fled into Gotham until he was confronted and defeated by Batman. However, when Batman was distracted fighting Liu Kang, The Joker escaped. As he was running, he encounteredScorpion, who defeated the Joker in combat. Lex Luthor recruited the Joker with Catwoman and Deathstroke and his team of villains. Luthor dispatched Joker to find the teleportal that would send them back to Apokolips along with Deathstroke.
They meet Sonya Blade and Kano and fought,The Joker took on Sonya while Deathstroke took on Kano. The Joker defeats Sonya and pushes Deathstroke aside and takes on Kano himself and defeats him too. The Kombat Rage gets to him and he betrays Deathstroke, defeating him too. He takes on his old archnemesis Batman, believing to be able to defeat him also, but loses to Batman as the Dark Knight uses his taser.
In the final battle between the DC universe heroes and The Mortal Kombat warriors the Joker fights again Kano.

Biography

MK vs DCU: "An insanely homicidal super-villain, the Joker's white skin, green hair, and blood-red lips belie the chaotic nature underlying his cartoonish appearance. The self-styled "Clown Prince of Crime" has no superpowers, beyond a capacity for incredible violence and a skill at creating deadly mayhem. He frequently concocts elaborate schemes to entrap his arch-nemesis, Batman."

Combat characteristics

Powers and abilities

Although The Joker is a human man with no supernatural enhancements, natural or otherwise, his lack of sanity and rationality have themselves been a fatal weapon to his many, many victims as he is unencumbered by rational thought and is therefore extraordinarily creative, if not vindictive and sadistic. This has translated to his many schemes over the years, as well as in his hand-to-hand combat style. Although Joker prefers to have henchmen do the "dirty work" for him, having a resourceful nemesis like Batman has forced Joker to be able to fight hand-to-hand in situations that force him to. Sometimes using weapons that play off his clownish appearance, many times Joker prefers stabbing weapons and firearms, and always attempts to use his methods of killing in ways that he finds ironic and humorous.
Signature moves
Joker's Wild: Joker throws a playing card lined with steel at the opponent. (MKvsDCU)

  • Put It There: Joker counters an opponent's attack by grabbing their hand and shocking them with his electric joybuzzer. He then laughs giddily and dances in a circle. (MKvsDCU)

  • Sinister Heels: Joker grabs the opponent and kicks them repeatedly with the back of his foot.(MKvsDCU)

    • Bombs Away: Joker throws a bomb with a smiley face on it that bounces up and down before exploding. He can do this from far away or close up. (MKvsDCU)

    • Magic Trick: Joker is enveloped in a cloud of green smoke. Any button which is pressed in this brief state will produce a different attack. (MKvsDCU)

      • Surprise Stomp: Joker does a flying jump kick. (MKvsDCU)

      Fatalities

The Killing Joke: Joker takes out a gun and shoots it, but it was fake and shows the words "Bang" on it. He drops it and starts to laugh. Then he pulls out a real gun and shoots the opponent in the head, killing them. In the North American version, this fatality is edited so that the camera zooms in on Joker as he shoots them in the head ending in a sickening crunch, cutting the victim out of shot.

    • Card Trick: Joker takes out 4 cards and throws 3 at the opponent body. Then he throws one more at the opponent's head.

      Endings

      MK vs DCU:

"As the worlds separated, the Joker discovered he had retained his new powers. With them he soon controlled all of Gotham, proclaiming himself "Mayor Joker." Under his rule, the city devolved into chaos. He now holds a tournament in which "contestants" are forced to fight to the death for his amusement. The winner will face off against the Joker himself."
